Its here, its finally here!! The day we’ve been waiting six long (well, actually very very fast) weeks for!! In case this is your first time visiting, we’ve been renovating our basement laundry room into the washing/drying/folding space of our dreams and you catch up on the week-by-week progress updates below:
Week 1 (The design) // Week 2 (Tile/Cabinets) // Week 3 (Hardware/Wallpaper) // Week 4 (Folding Station) // Week 5 (The Finishing Details)
This was my very first time participating in the One Room Challenge, but I have followed along for years and always wanted to join in the fun so I am so so happy I finally did. The six week timeline really pushes you to finish (like really finish) a space in under six weeks. Which is no easy feat, but I know this space could have easily dragged on for months if we didn’t have the deadline. So thank you to Linda and the One Room Challenge team for hosting this event, allowing us to having this beautiful space in such a short amount of time.
Lest we forget how far we’ve come, here are a few “before” pictures of this exact same space. It truly is hard to believe it is the same room!!
Here is the design plan that we created before getting started:
And here is how far we’ve come!!! I can’t believe how well we were able to execute our vision and have everything come together so so well. Aaron and I’s DIY skills have come a long, long way in that time too. The space was “white-boxed” with electrical/HVAC/drywall/plumbing beforehand, but we added every single finishing element ourselves. We tiled and grouted both the floors and backsplash, assembled and hung the cabinets, installed wallpaper, cut and sealed butch block cabinets, refinished the antique door, and cut and hung all the trim. It really was a whirlwind of a six weeks trying to accomplish all that and still get it styled and photographed in time, but the confidence and new skills that it has given us was well worth the blood, sweat and tears (literally, blood and tears were both flowing on several occasions, haha!!).
So there you have it, I’m going to actually get back to doing our laundry now, since that has pretty much gone by the wayside while we were in the home stretch of this challenge. But I am so so much more excited to do laundry, now that I have this space to do it in!!! If you would like to know where anything is from, I’m going to be updating this post with sources very soon, so just back in a day or two.
Also, don’t forget to go see the other amazing reveals over at the One Room Challenge blog, and the featured designers had their reveals yesterday, which were so, so good, and you can see them all below.

May 10, 2019 at 4:24 pmI can’t get over the fact that you and the hubs powered this room out not only in 6 weeks but doing all the work yourselves! You’re DIY rockstars!! I love the mix of patterns and pops of color but it still feels light and bright. Who wouldn’t want to do laundry in here?? Beautiful transformation Karly!

May 13, 2019 at 9:08 pmThis has got to be one of the prettiest laundry rooms ever! That wallpaper gets me every time – I love that you used it in the whole room and not just as a feature wall!
